When you attend the meeting of creditors (sometimes called the 341 meeting, after the section of the Bankruptcy Code), you need to bring four things:
- A picture ID;
- Your Social Security card;
- Any pay advices (paystubs) that you have received since your attorney filed your bankruptcy petition; and
- Statements for all of your bank accounts (savings as well as checking) for the month that your petition was filed.
If you forget to bring any of these things, your meeting of creditors will probably be continued, which means rescheduled. Depending on your attorney, you may have to pay additional attorney’s fees for her to attend a second meeting. Obviously, another meeting could mean that you will have to ask for more time off from work.
If you have any questions about what is or is not acceptable identification for the meeting, you should talk to your lawyer.
