If you are in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you probably want to keep track of the payments you have been making to the trustee. Doing so allows you to make sure that all of your payments are getting credited and lets you know just how much longer of your 36 or 60 month pay period is left.
Fortunately, since neither your bankruptcy attorney or the bankruptcy trustee will be keeping you up to date on where you are, there is another resource that you can use.
The National Data Center website allows you to track your Chapter 13 case, letting you see what payments you have made as well as who has filed a proof of claim against you. It’s important to make sure that all of your secured creditors have filed a proof of claim. If they don’t, they won’t get paid, and you may be left with a lien against your property at the end of your case.
The bottom line is that you must stay involved during your Chapter 13 bankruptcy. If you don’t, you may run into some unwelcome surprises.
