Section 521(e)(2)(A) requires debtors to provide a copy of their tax return “for the most recent tax year ending immediately before the commencement of the case and for which a Federal income tax return was filed”. Your attorney will probably ask you to sign an IRS Form 4506-T, which allow her to get a copy of your tax transcript for the previous two years. A tax transcript is simply a snapshot of your tax return and will satisfy 521(e)(2)(A).
Your attorney has to provide a copy of your tax return no later than seven (7) days before your meeting of creditors (also known as a 341 meeting).
Your trustee may also request a copy of your tax return, so you should be prepared to give a copy to your lawyer.
